WHITE VIEWPORTS IN UnrealEd

EVERY SO OFTEN, AND IT IS QUITE RANDOM, THE FOUR VIEWPORTS IN THE UNREAL ED WILL BE COMPLETELY WHITE.

IT'S A VIEWPORT BUG. SO GO VIEW > VIEWPORTS > CONFIGURE, CHOOSE THE VIEWPORT CONFIGURATION YOU LIKE AND HIT OK.

IT'LL HAPPEN FOR THE NEXT FEW TIMES YOU OPEN THE EDITOR AND THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL. AND IT'LL COME BACK AT SOME RANDOM TIME IN THE FUTURE.

ACCESSING UT2004 AND THE EDITOR IN THE FBE COMPUTER LABS

HI ALL, TO ACCESS UT2004 AND THE UNREAL EDITOR IN THE FBE COMPUTER LABS YOU HAVE TO DO THREE THINGS.



1. CLICK START > ALL PROGRAMS > CAD + DESIGN > STEAM



2. LOG INTO STEAM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A USERNAME AND PASSWORD THEN CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. DON'T LAUNCH THE UT2004 GAME AT THIS POINT, YOU ARE JUST STARTING STEAM SO THE EDITOR CAN LAUNCH THE GAME WHEN YOU HIT THE PLAYTEST BUTTON.



3. GO TO THIS FOLDER IN THE COMPUTERS C DRIVE:



C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 2004\System



RIGHT CLICK ON UnrealEd.exe AND CHOOSE SEND TO DESKTOP (CREATE A SHORTCUT). MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORK REGULARLY AND REMEMBER TO SAVE THE MAP/S YOU HAVE BEEN WORKING ON TO YOUR MEMORY STICK, OR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE BEFORE LOGGING OFF.

IF YOU JUST HIT SAVE WHEN YOU WERE WORKING ON YOUR MAP IT WOULD BE SAVED HERE:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 2004\maps

SETTING UP UT2004 ON YOUR MACHINE:

HI ALL, IN TERMS OF SETTING UP UT2004 ON YOUR COMPUTERS YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS:

1. DOWNLOAD IT COMPLETELY THROUGH STEAM (BY FAR THE EASIEST OPTION)

OR...

2. IF YOU HAVE A SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION, OR LOW DOWNLOAD LIMIT (UT2004 IS ABOUT 6 GIG) YOU CAN GET THE BULK OF THE FILES FROM THE RESOURCES DRIVE AND JUST PURCHASE/DOWNLOAD THE "KEY" THROUGH STEAM. TO DO THIS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN LECTURE 5.

IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO THINK ABOUT OPTION 2 LIKE THIS: THE FILES YOU GET FROM THE RESOURCES DRIVE IS THE "CAR". YOU CAN USE THE EDITOR (CHECK THE OIL, CHANGE THE SPARKPLUGS, PUT CD's IN THE PLAYER) BUT YOU'LL NEED TO GET THE "KEYS" (FROM STEAM) BEFORE YOU CAN TAKE IT FOR A DRIVE. THAT'S WHY YOU GET THE ERROR MESSAGE WHEN YOU HIT "PLAYTEST". THE SOFTWARE IS SAYING YOU HAVEN'T PAID FOR ME YET.

IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU YOU HAVEN'T DONE STEPS 6 AND 7 OF THE INSTRUCTIONS IN LECTURE 5. IT WON'T WORK UNTIL YOU HAVE.

ATTENDANCE CHECK AT MONDAYS LECTURE

THERE WILL BE AN ATTENDANCE CHECK AT MONDAYS LECTURE. ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED BY THE UNIVERSITY TO ATTEND A MINIMUM OF 80% OF ALL SCHEDULED CLASSES IN THEIR COURSES.

STUDENTS THAT FALL BELOW THIS THRESHOLD CAN NOT PASS THE COURSE.

THIS IS THE FIRST OF 3 RANDOM ATTENDANCE CHECKS.

IF THE SECTION AND TEXTURE IMAGES ON YOUR BLOG ARE BLURRY YOU WILL LOOSE GRADES.
ALL ARCH1101 STUDENTS HAVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT FRIDAY 18TH OF APRIL TO RESCAN ANY BLURRY IMAGES THEY HAVE ON THEIR BLOG. IF YOU DECIDE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY YOU SHOULD PLACE A NOTE AT THE TOP OF YOUR BLOG INDICATING THAT YOU HAVE DONE SO.

PLACE TO UPLOAD LARGE SKETCHUP FILES

IF YOUR SKETCHUP MODEL IS TOO LARGE TO UPLOAD TO GOOGLE WAREHOUSE YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS:

1. REDUCE THE FILE SIZE BY REMOVING COMPONENTS SUCH AS FURNITURE ETC.

2. UPLOAD THE LARGE MODEL TO http://www.filefront.com/. YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER FIRST. WE WILL BE USING FILEFRONT TO UPLOAD YOUR UT2004 MAPS AT THE END OF EXPERIMENT 2 SO IT MIGHT BE GOOD PRACTICE TO TRY THIS NOW.

WITH VIDEO ANIMATION THERE ARE A GREAT DEAL OF OPTIONS IN TERMS OF HOW A VIDEO IS SAVED. IN SKETCHUP YOU CAN SPECIFY THE FRAME SIZE, THE FRAME RATE, THE FILE TYPE, THE CODEC (COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION TYPE) AND ASPECT RATIO TO NAME A FEW.
FOR YOUR ANIMATIONS IN EXP1 USE THE SETTINGS BELOW.
