WHITE VIEWPORTS IN UnrealEd

EVERY SO OFTEN, AND IT IS QUITE RANDOM, THE FOUR VIEWPORTS IN THE UNREAL ED WILL BE COMPLETELY WHITE.

IT'S A VIEWPORT BUG. SO GO VIEW > VIEWPORTS > CONFIGURE, CHOOSE THE VIEWPORT CONFIGURATION YOU LIKE AND HIT OK.

IT'LL HAPPEN FOR THE NEXT FEW TIMES YOU OPEN THE EDITOR AND THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL. AND IT'LL COME BACK AT SOME RANDOM TIME IN THE FUTURE.

just a note - i dont think you NEED to have steam open to run the game, at least if you bought the game by CD.

just one thing, there is a bug with unreal ed 2004 with "high class" graphics cards, the antialiasing on the cards wont allow you to select materials in the editor, the only way to fix it is to roll-back your graphics drivers, or to use a different computer without the same card.. just letting people know in case they have the same problem

does anyone know whats up when you try and subtract something from the outside space, but like.. your whole space gets deleted?

I had the same problem while using the Actor Scaling tool. BUT when I stopped using it and stuck with manually altering the dimensions, everything was back to normal =0o

Can anyone get the textures working?

anyone else finding ut2004 to be very time consuming and difficult compared to the amount of satisfaction you get out of making your design?

this is doing my head in... why are we using such a buggy program? what a waste of $15 or whatever it equates to in AUD...

Hi All, yes there are a few bugs in UnrealEd, but for $15 or so it does very well compared to 3dsMax which is more like $3500. If you bought the game off ebay (or where ever) on CD or DVD then you're right, you don't have to worry about Steam. Thanks for the advice about antialiasing. I think the video tutorials advise against using actor scaling. If your sky doesn't appear as sky then you've most probably deleted the skybox which is off to the side of the main map. We talked about dieing straight away in several lectures, you need space, a player start, a light, and to rebuild the map and then you won't die. My guess is you don't have a light (have deleted the sun) or haven't rebuilt the map (which the video tutorials emphasize). The most likely cause of textures not appearing is that they are the wrong size, the size is on the tutorial and you have to be exact. There are no other pieces of software (other than computer games) that will allow you to experience your environment so fully in real time. UT2004 is the most straight forward (easiest) one available. But you need to follow the tutorials rigorously. If you are not playtesting regularly then I agree it would be hard to see why we would bother using it. But when you get into the environment and take a look around you'll learn things you couldn't learn in any other way.

chris... before sucking up with a very long winded essay, it might help if you actually SUBMIT your assignment beforehand.
